JAMES H. PYUN received his Juris Doctor Degree from Boston University School of Law in 1991 and his B.A. from Dartmouth College in 1986. He is admitted to practice law in the State Courts of New York and New Jersey. James H. Pyun has been with our firm since 1993 and became a partner in 2005.
Jim handles a vast array of school business matters for our clients. He has defended our clients in numerous appeals to the Commissioner of Education and the courts on matters including contract and bidding disputes, residency, transportation, and challenges to board or administrative actions. Jim assists school districts in the development and implementation of their facilities' use, purchasing, data protection and security policies. He regularly advises our clients with respect to a wide range of legal matters, including their rights and obligations under the OML, FOIL, and Education Law §2-d.
He also handles a wide range of contract issues for our clients' business offices, including purchasing, bidding, service contracts, architect's agreements, construction manager's contracts, public construction contracts, and transportation bids/RFPs and agreements. Jim provides guidance to our clients regarding their capital and other reserve funds. He drafts, reviews and/or revises architect and construction manager agreements to protect our clients' interests. Jim collaborates closely with school business officials to update the insurance and indemnification requirements in transportation and other vendor contracts to reduce our clients' exposure and better protect their boards against liability. Jim has successfully argued appeals before the Appellate Division, Second Department and the Second Circuit Court of Appeals and has written numerous successful appellate briefs to the State Review Officer, the Appellate Division, Second Department, and the Second Circuit Court of Appeals.
